Visiting the Florence American Cemetery

Share

Interred and memorialized in the cemetery are America’s service members who died during the last phase of the Italian Campaign.

This Northern Italian offensive from June 1944 to May 1945 was the last campaign to drive the German forces off the Italian peninsula. This campaign was an Allied effort led by Gen. Mark W. Clark, commander of the American 5th Army in Italy. Here are the honored dead listed as Delawareans interred at the cemetery: Edward F. Dillon, Austin V. Horner, Joseph M. Lentini, Alfred E. Lux, William E. Paskins, Robert J. Seward and Howard L. Wilkerson.
