Cape Henlopen School District has hired Kristin Loffreda Mancinelli to teach Italian in the high school, a program built and fostered for many years by Cristina Christy.

This four-year program will be continued by Mancinelli, a 13-year veteran, having taught Italian in a public school near Philadelphia. With a goal of fostering an appreciation and interest in Italian, she will share her love of history and culture, as well as the language and beauty of Italy which she and her family have personally experienced. With family roots from outside of Rome, Italian is often spoken at her home.

Mancinelli grew up in Pittsburgh, Pa., then moved to Philadelphia with her husband and three daughters. Having often come to Rehoboth Beach to vacation, she finds it is “a wonderful and seamless transition to come here to teach … and feels so blessed to be here at this beautiful, innovative high school at the beach.”

The Rehoboth Area Chapter of UNICO National introduced her to members on Sept. 19 at an event at Nicola Pizza. There will be an official welcome to her and her family, offering support to the Italian program at Cape High School, at the chapter opening session at 6 p.m. Oct. 17 at St. Edmond Parish Hall.
