The UNICO Bocce tournament held on Sept. 11 in Georgetown was well-attended, with 10 teams rolling to support the annual Brian Piccolo Award to Sussex County high school athletic teams.

The chairman of the Delaware Commission on Italian Heritage, Richard DiLiberto, and the UNICO National President, Steve Pelonero, joined forces to rally members for a day of fun, good food and sportsmanship.

The event began with a moment of silence to honor those lost on Sept. 11, 2001. Ten teams competed with entry fees and raffle proceeds to be dedicated to the $1,000 awarded each year to a Sussex County athletic team and gifts to all nominated by their respective schools.

The UNICO Delaware October meeting will feature a video and discussion on the meaning of Columbus Day and Italian immigrants to the United States.
