Symposium spreads word about Cooley’s

May 14 was a banner day in the history of Rehoboth Beach, Del., and awareness of Cooley’s anemia, medically known as thalassemia.

UNICO National – with two chapters in Southern Delaware, sponsored an informative lecture and Q&A directed by Teresa Turchi who traveled with her family from Ambler, Pa., to represent the National Thalassemia Foundation.

The event was attended by about 40 UNICO members and friends. A luncheon was provided for participants and donors at St. Edmond Church, followed by a “walk-a-thon” on the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk.

A total of $1,700 was raised to be donated to the Foundation via UNICO National Cooley’s Anemia chairperson, Dr. Peter Pettinato, at the Convention 2016, in Cambridge, Md.
