Vincetta “Vee” Casapulla Sparco, a local singer and stage performer, peacefully passed away at the age of 100 on Jan. 29. She was a resident of Wilmington, Del.
Vee, as she was affectionally known, was born in April 1924 to the late Luigi Casapulla and Anna Zampini Casapulla. Vee was gifted with a beautiful voice and good looks. She began her career in 1930 at the age of 6 singing on the Italian language radio program at WDEL in Wilmington and on Philadelphia station WRAX’s Italian Children’s Hour, giving her the distinction of being the last survivor of the region’s “golden days of Italian radio.” Vincetta also performed and sang in local Italian theater shows. Her last performance was on WPVI Channel 6 News on the occasion of her 97th birthday.
Vee enjoyed family parties on holidays, but she especially enjoyed Easter. She would spend weeks creating her custom hats for her family members to model in her “Easter Parade.”
A lifelong parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Vee enjoyed all the Italian-American traditions offered. She especially cherished walking in the procession on St. Anthony’s Day with her family at the Italian Festival.
Vee was an endlessly generous person, full of life and a “can-do “attitude,” whose memory will be cherished by those who knew her.
The Italian American Herald and L’Associazione Regionale Abruzzese Delco radio staff wish to extend their heartfelt sympathy to the family of Vincetta.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Feb. 3 at St. Anthony’s, with entombment in Cathedral Cemetery.
