Prize-winning opera singer to perform in Philadelphia

Raúl Velazco, who won first prize in October’s Giargiari Bel Canto Competition, will perform the role of Mephistophélès in a new production of “Faust” at the Academy of Vocal Arts, 1920 Spruce St., Philadelphia. The show runs from Nov. 16 through Dec. 3. Velazco, who sings bass, was born in México and is a member of México Opera Estudio where he performed the roles of Colas in Mozart’s “Bastien und Bastienne” and Manuello in Melesio Morales’ opera “Anita.” He won third prize at 2022 Carlo Morelli contest as well as being a finalist in the Concurso Latinoamericano de Canto Radio Filarmonía in Peru.
