Dear Mr. Cannavo,
Enclosed is a clip about English phrases which come to us via Italian! I know you have articles about the Italian language in your paper. Perhaps you would want to include these articles. (Look for them in this issue’s Italian lesson.)
I pick up my copy at an Italian restaurant in Paoli, where I generally dine twice a week.
I don’t speak Italian, but I do speak Spanish, German and rusty French. When I (used to) go to Italy I would try to adapt appropriate words and
phrases from Spanish or French. As a senior, once I did try to study Italian at free classes offered at West Chester University, but always seemed to lead the class off in Spanish! The languages are so close — yet different!
All the best,
Stephen Arnold
