Share

ROME – The EU Political and Security Committee (COPS) officially announced that Italy is to lead the EU’s new mission to Niger. COPS gave the green light for the new European assistance measure for Niger, within the framework of the European Peace Facility (EPF), linked to the military partnership mission.

According to European diplomatic sources, the mission is worth around 40 million euros and Italy will be responsible for implementing the measure through the Defense Industries Agency (AID).

It is the first time that Italy would take on this role. The command of the EU military mission should also go to Italy.
