Italian-American broadcaster gets a new FM program

The Associazione Regionale Abruzzese Delco has engaged the talents of Melissa Cannavo-Marino to host WVLT 92.1 FM’s “Viaggio Musicale,” a bi-lingual program at 6 p.m. on Sunday. The program is produced by ARA Delco’s Italian-American Media Productions and will appeal to Italians, Italian Americans and “lovers of all things Italian.

The format includes community news, Italian classic and contemporary music and songs from Italy’s golden era of rock ’n’ roll with performances by Italian, Italian-American and well-known American singers.

L’Associazione Regionale Abruzzese Delco President Nicholas Rapagnani of Brookhaven credited the program’s sponsors, Cento Foods, Carman Lincoln in New Castle, Wilmington University, Amoroso Baking Co., Rosa Foods, Serpe Bakery in Elsmere, and L’Associazione Regionale Siciliana and Cannavo-Marino’s dedication in bringing “Viaggio Musicale”
to WVLT-FM.

Cannavo-Marino began broadcasting on IABN, Philadelphia’s full-time Italian language network in 1999. In 2003, she moved to Italy to study at the American University of Rome, earning a degree in mass communications and public relations, and her Italian Triennale degree through a joint program with the University of Macerata.

She also earned a master’s degree in marketing from Wilmington University
and remains active in the tri-state region’s Italian-American community. She is a board member of the Delaware Italian-American Education Association and a former Commissioner on the Gloucester County Italian Heritage Commission.

She also hosts “Mattinata Musicale” Sunday mornings at 8 on Wilmington radio WILM-AM 1450.
