The State Lodge of Pennsylvania, Order Sons of Italy in America, is accepting scholarship applications from eighth-grade students and high-school seniors until April 30.
An award of $2,500 will go to a high-school senior who maintains at least a 3.0 grade-point average and will enter an undergraduate college program in the fall of 2025. Applicants must provide a 250- to 300-page typed letter outlining their career objectives and goals, along with reasons they are deserving of the application.
An award of $1,000 will be granted to an eighth-grader who maintains at least a B average and plans to enter a private or parochial high school in the fall of 2025. Applicants must provide a 250- to 300-word essay about the life and contributions of one of these figures: Christopher Columbus, St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, Giovanni Caboto (John Cabot), Dr. Maria Montessori, Antonio Meucci, Sister Blandina Segale, Enrico Fermi, Luisa Tetrazzini, Lt. Joseph Petrosino or Dr. Rita Montalcino-Levi.
Applicants must be members of the Order for the past two years, although applicants based on a parent’s membership are also eligible.
