The Eighth Annual Padre Pio Festival presented by St. Bede the Venerable Church and Knights of Columbus Council 15478, returns in September.
The two-day event begins with Saturday’s All-American Picnic Buffet featuring games and amusements for children, food and craft vendors, and live music. The highlight will be a 5:30 p.m. Vigil Mass, followed by blessings with holy relics of Padre Pio. The Sunday 12:30 p.m. Solemn Mass will be celebrated by Most Reverend Nelson J. Perez, Archbishop of Philadelphia. The Mass is followed by a street procession with a statue of Padre Pio, then a healing service with confessions and veneration of holy relics. Rosalie Restaurant explores the Wines of Tuscany. Class attendees will taste red and white wines hailing from this central Italian region, including indigenous grapes like Sangiovese and transplants from Bordeaux, like Cabernet. Chris Ruggiero takes his audiences on a musical journey through the golden age of rock ’n’ roll. His PBS-TV appearances, feature on Good Morning America, and hit albums have brought an even bigger audience, selling out shows all over the country. In his new show, “Teenage Dreams and Magic Moments,” which comes to the Media Theatre, Chris tells his incredible story by breathing new life into the timeless music of the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s with a live six-piece band featuring new orchestrations by Four Seasons arranger and pop-rock legend Charlie Calello. The Society of Italian American Businessmen (SIAB), a Maryland-based charitable organization supporting organizations focused on education, family and child services, mental health and addiction, will host inaugural Maryland Italian Festival at the Harford County Equestrian Center in Bel Air, Maryland. The festival will include Italian food and retail vendors, carnival rides and midway games, national and regional entertainment and a piazza serving wine, beer, and liquor. In addition, SIAB’s annual Bocce Tournament will be folded into the festival allowing teams to compete for big cash prizes on Saturday and cheer on athletes from the Special Olympics as they compete in a multi-state regional tournament on Sunday.
